The story of the Helmet...

I moved to Bay Area in 1996 after I landed a job at Hewlett Packard. I moved here not knowing a single person. I had heard about the Friday Night Skate and decided to check it out in hopes of meeting some people. I went a few times and casually met a few people, but I had trouble really getting to know anyone.

Then I looked around. I saw who was popular, who was recognized and who was remembered. Everyone that fit into those categories had something in common, they were different. Different dress, different accents, different styles...

Ding!!! The key to fitting in was to be different. So, I figured out a way that I could be different. I was good with electronics, I always wore a helmet, it was a perfect match. I could put electronics on my helmet. 200 LEDs, a PIC processor, and a couple Ni-Cads.

The first night I wore my helmet I was terrified. I wasn't sure if I would fit in or be ridiculed, but I figured what do I have to loose.

That night I met over a hundred people. Everyone loved it. A few of those people I met that night are my best friends today...
