Automated microscope for the Ciona intestinalis (sea squirt) genome project
This automated microscope uses optical recognition to autonomously locate and categorize the microscopic sea squirts. The system is designed to be loaded with 50 slides and run unattended for hours while the slides are being processed. For more information about the project visit the JGI website.
Here's what a Sea Squirt looks like under the microscope. (It is only 18 hours old)
